My axle nuts are making clicking noises which means its time to re-torque them down. Only problem is that they are 36mm which is a massive socket (and I don't have one even close to that big). Anybody have one I could borrow or use with their impact gun? I'd rather not go and pay the $18 it costs for just ONE 36mm socket Shocked

it is clicking again b/c you are suppose to replace the axle nut.

did you stake the nut?

i think new torque spec is 220 ft-lbs.?
some go to 240,

you shouldn't be using an airgun.

Yea I know I'm supposed to replace it / relube it, but I'm just looking for a temp fix until I can get some new nuts (add joke here Razz). Yes the torque spec is 220 ft/lbs. If I shouldn't use an air tool, then how am I supposed to torque them down that hard? I don't have a torque wrench with that high of a rating. And yea they were staked last time they were torqued down. Must have backed out somehow.

use torque wrench. get someone ~220 pounds to stand one foot away from the nut on the torque wrench.

220 ft*lbf is high enough to where you tighten the thing on and get it as tight as you can get it.

And you don't need a torque wrench for this. Just use a breaker bar.

I probably have a 36mm socket in the back of my car, I'll check. I know I have 32 (1.25")

You might be able to get by with a 1 7/16 socket however.

Wow you have everything! Very Happy I might have to hit you up in the near future. Oh, or could you bring the socket and wrench to the next meet/meeting that you can make it to?

Yea the last time I had to retorque them we just used an air gun and tightened them down as far as they would go. I'll have to check around for some giant pipe to use once I get a socket lol. Just annoys me that they jack up the price on sockets by that much just cause its such a large size.

good idea.
have your center caps off when you get there.
you should be able to torque them with the car on the ground.

Yes Rob I am going to autocross it. Just because I didn't want to autocross it one time doesn't mean I'm never going to ever again Rolling Eyes
