http://jalopnik.com/5384392/lemons-virus-spreads-like-swine-flu-21-races-in-2010-plenty-of-new-tracks

Amber at our SWCCCR meeting mentioned she has a running candidate for Lemons for $500. OR with all the parts in the barn, maybe ANOTHER rx7 is a good choice. Or maybe, even CC1 should be considered. Last year, several friends ran an RX7 the entire race... water being re-filled after every three laps for the 4 hours. Rot's will take a licking and keep on ticking if you keep water in it. Laughing

6-7 February: Southern Discomfort (Charlotte NC)
Carolina Motorsports Park, Kershaw SC
"Who says it never snows in South Carolina?"

29-30 May: LeMons South Spring (Charlotte NC)
Carolina Motorsports Park, Kershaw SC
"Still-crazy after all these years."

25-26 September: LeMons South Fall (Charlotte NC)
Carolina Motorsports Park, Kershaw SC
"Just the tell the missus you're 'hiking the Appalachian Trail.'"

I can get sponsors... we shoot for February. If we miss it, you have May. If you really get lazy/busy, we have September. We have all watched a race or read the articles about them and said "I want to do this." Well, stop dreaming and let's get busy. This is doable! Right NOW... are you thinking of reasons to DO it or excuses as to why you can't?

Forget winning. Look at it as 4 or 5 students get multiple hours of lap time at CMP in traffic and their first wheel to wheel racing experience for their resume and represent CSCC in a way that NO OTHER SOUTHERN COLLEGE IS DOING. THAT would shut some mouths from the past (as they never did anything as cool as this) AND get some positive attention from the University. Not to mention, stories to tell the grand kids about. Laughing The same car you build up and run can be run at two other events Lemons events this year and I am working to get approval to have a Lemons class at hillclimbs this year... that would be one at Banner Elk,NC and two at Wolf Ridge just north of Asheville.

Think about it.

I think it would be great fun to compete in a lemons race Very Happy . Only thing that worries me about cc1 is if it gets trashed, then we have no club car anymore.

If you can get sponsors for this I'm in. I should be graduating in December - depending on how the job search goes starting in January I'll either have more free time than anyone to work on the car or no time at all, but I will help as much as possible between now and then.

Oh, and I want to drive in the mayhem.

Bonus points for me: I'm driving CMP in a few weeks - I should be faintly familiar with the track for LeMons.

Yes Keegan... and the rules read :
"# 2.2: Driver Eligibility: All drivers must have a valid US or International driver's license and a valid competition license or LeMons Competition Membership card. (Club memberships, rally licenses, and instructional licenses are not accepted.) The ONLY acceptable competition licenses are: ARCA, Barber Comp, BBORR, BCRA, CASA, CRA, CSRG, FIA, Grand Am, HMSA, HSR, ICSCC, Legends/600, NASA, NASCAR, NCMA, MMRA, SCCA, SRL, SVRA, USAC, VMC and WestCar. If you don't have one of these, you'll need to buy a LeMons Competition Membership; these cost $50, are good for the duration of the calendar year, and are made available to all drivers after their team is accepted.

o 2.2.1: Drivers Under 18: Drivers under 18 years of age must get a notarized letter of permission from their parents or legal guardians. You might also want to ask said parents or legal guardians why they'd ever allow you to do this; it probably means they've been poaching your college fund."

In other words, $50 and you too can have a competition license. Laughing Laughing Laughing

You will need suits ( I have access to a quantity of them through Second Gear program... it is gear donated by SCCA members for drivers to loan for free while they are getting started in their first events.
I can find a donor for the tires. Making it happen is easy... after you all make a commitment to make it happen.

Wow I never knew getting a competition licence was so easy! Razz

I'm all for this as long as its not during a time when I have classes. May would probably be best for me as well. I've always wanted to race wheel-to-wheel. Headbanging

1st gen RX7's are an awesome choice...I URGE you not to take CC1 unless you guys never want to see it again. These races can be BRUTAL to cars. See the last Lemons south: 90+ cars started, ~45 cars finished.

1st gen chassis in poor shape are dime a dozen...and make good candidates.

Stuff you sell off the car can subtract from the cost?

I think so I know that is how the $200X challenge is. I might be wrong though.

That is correct..safety equipment and tires do not count either.... that includes roll cage and seat.
We have several past CSCC grads that have run Lemons and might be willing to help advise. Marc , Devin and the Subarjew gang!
